Rostedt Back in Action with the US U21 National Team
Carson, California - Saturday, February 17, 2007
Jessica Rostedt (Kent, Ohio) is back in camp with the U21 National Team. This is her second call-up of the year.
Rostedt, a long-time member of the Internationals Soccer Club, participated in the first U21 Camp of 2007 January 13-20 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California and is back with the team in Carson from February 17-23.
US U21 Head Coach, Bill Irwin, called in 24 players for a week of training and scrimmages, including a scrimmage against the U.S. Women’s team who is preparing for the Algarve Cup held in Portugal in March. Irwin will use this camp in part to formulate a roster that will travel to England from March 9-18 where the U-21s will play several top English women’s clubs.
Rostedt has been a member of the US Soccer program for the past six years at the U14, U16, U17, U19, and U20 levels. In 2004, she was an integral part of the US U19 team, which won a bronze medal in the FIFA U19 World Championships in Thailand and again in 2006, she helped the U.S. to a fourth place finish at FIFA Under-20 World Championships in Russia.
Rostedt recently finished her second season in the collegiate ranks. During the fall she led the University of Virginia in scoring (8 goals, 3 assists) and helped them to a Sweet Sixteen appearance in the NCAA tournament. She earned a number of post-season awards including First Team ACC, First Team All-Region and Third Team All-American.
The U.S. National Camps play a vital role in continuing the development of the nation’s most talented young female soccer players and are an important step toward identifying a pool of players who will compete for future places on our Women’s National Teams and in the FIFA Women’s World Cup and/or Olympic Games.
