Internationals Compete for Champions Cup Title
Orlando, Florida - Wednesday, April 4, 2007

The US Club Soccer 2007 Champions Cup commences Thursday, April 5 at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla. The four-day Champions Cup is a true club championship utilizing a unique format with clubs accumulating points for results at U13, U15 and U17/U18 age groups. An invitation only event, separate boys and girls' titles will be awarded on Sunday, April 8.

The Internationals will be competing in the Champions Cup for the second year in a row with Boys and Girls in the U13, U15, and U17/18 age groups.

"We're anticipating an incredible 2007 Champions Cup," said US Club Soccer Executive Director Bill Sage. "You couldn't ask for a finer facility, teams will be out supporting one another and with the quality of the participating clubs, the competition will be intense."

Contested on the Hess Sports Fields at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex, the Champions Cup format focuses on the importance of the entire club. During the first three days of the Cup, two, four-team pools in U13, U15 and U17/U18 age divisions will play in a round robin format. (Up to five U18 players may be added to the U17 roster.) Following pool play, placement matches pairing teams from corresponding groups based on their results will determine the eventual Cup winner in each age bracket.

While individual age group winners will be recognized, the Champions Cup champion will be the club with the most cumulative points from its participating teams in all three age groups. Both a boys and a girls' club champion will be crowned.

"This is a great opportunity for our club to compete against some of the nation’s best talent in an environment which fosters club unity and camaraderie" said Zdravko Popovic, Internationals Girls Director of Coaching.

More information about the Champions Cup including the game schedule, an event program and the competition's history can be found at the Champions Cup page. During the competition, April 5-8, results, photos and the Champions Cup Blog will be available at www.usclubsoccer.org.
