Club Happenings ~ April 2007
-
CHAMPIONS CUP: Disney’s Wide World of Sports, Orlando, Florida; April 5-8; U13, U15, U17
Our U13, U15 and U17/18 teams traveled to sunny Florida over Easter Weekend and enjoyed some great soccer at the Disney complex. We finished 5th overall and although we didn't quite reach our goals, we did play well overall against some of the nation's best teams. We also took away some lessons to learn from and positives to build upon for upcoming events. Cup info and results: US Club Soccer's Champions Cup

Our U16s played well and finished with a 2-0-1 record against 2 Canadian teams and 1 local team.
- BLUE CHIP COLLEGE SHOWCASE: Cincinnati, Ohio; April 21-22; U16 & U17
As the adidas Blue Chip Showcase Tournament has grown into one of the truly exclusive showcases of U16 and U17 talent. Our players got an opportunity to play against quality teams in front of 200+ college coaches. Many of our players showed well and we have received lots of positive feedback from the coaches in attendance.
- Our U16s tied for first in their division but narrowly lost out on the title by goal differential.
- U16 Results:
Tied Ohio Elite 1 - 1
Defeated Westside United 3 -1
Defeated Wings SC Nationals 1-0
- Our U17s lost all 3 games.
- MRL, State League, & GAASA league play is underway
- On the recruiting trail… many of our U17 players have made verbal commitments to some of the best athletic and academic institutions in the country. One additional player has made a decision since the last newsletter. See the compete list in the March '07 iNEWS. We have a few more that are in the process of making a decision… stay tuned.

What you eat before activities affects performance. Your food the morning of a sports competition can ward off hunger, keep blood sugar levels adequate and aid hydration. Avoid high protein or high fat foods on the day of an event, as these can stress the kidneys and take a long time to digest.
1. Eat a meal high in carbohydrates.
2. Take solid foods 3-4 hours before events and liquids starting 2-3 hours before.
3. Choose easily digestible foods (i.e., not fried).
4. Avoid sugary foods/drinks within one hour of event.
5. Drink enough fluids to ensure hydration. Replenishing fluids lost to sweat is the primary concern during an athletic event. Drink 3-6 ounces of water or dilute sports drink every 10-20 minutes throughout competition.
