Goalkeeping: Effective Communication
Central to any successful soccer team is effective communication.  The sophistication and amount of communication will vary depending on age and skill level.  In today’s modern game the goalkeeper is the lead communicator on the field.  Expectations are that a goalkeeper is not only a shot stopper but also the last line of defense, first attacker, and demonstrates game maturity with decision making, organization, and communication.  That is a heavy burden at any age and ability level.

Player Spotlight ~ January 2007
Paige Maxwell (U17)

Paige Maxwell (Medina, Oh), a long-time member of the Internationals Soccer Club, helped the U.S. U-17 Women kick off the year for U.S. Soccer’s Youth National Teams Program with a training camp from January 3-10 in Orlando, Fla., at the University of Central Florida. The camp featured 30 players, many of whom saw considerable time last year with the U.S. U-16s. The team played several intra-squad scrimmages during the week-long training camp.

Maxwell competed with the U16 National Team in 2006 and has been a member of the Region II Regional Team since 2003. Also in 2006, she lead the U16 International Girls to a Region II USYSA Club Title and competed with her team at the National Championships.

The U.S. National Camps play a vital role in continuing the development of the nation’s most talented young female soccer players and are an important step toward identifying a pool of players who will compete for future places on our Women’s National Teams and in the FIFA Women’s World Cup and/or Olympic Games.

Congratulations, Paige!  Keep up the great work!

Player Spotlight ~ February 2007
Liz Kozlowski (U16)

Congrats to Liz Kozlowski (Amherst, Oh) for obtaining her “D” Coaching License.  Liz shows great passion and dedication to the game, and taking the D course is just another example of that.  She is the ultimate “Team Player”… she trains hard, never complains, and leads by example.  Liz is willing to help out her teammates, coaches, and the club as a whole in any way.  She showed a desire to coach from an early age and is well on her way of achieving that goal.

Reminder
Are you getting your touches in?  Practice, games and footskills are all great venues for improvement but in order to be the best you must put in extra time with the ball on your own.  Our Juggle Club is a great was to get your touches in AND get recognized/rewarded for it!!

"Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever."
